WEST AVENUE IMPROVEMENT ASSOCIATION
Welcome to West Avenue - 3 Blocks Long, Miles of Friendship
The WAIA was founded on May 26, 1941 and is the oldest neighborhood association in Richmond. The WAIA is dedicated to the orderly development, preservation and restoration of the neighborhood and works to maintain and promote the quality of life of our residents.
The geographical boundaries of the WAIA include all of West Avenue. Stuart Circle and portions of the following streets, to the extent that they back up to West Avenue. The north side of Park Avenue, the south side of W. Franklin Street, the east side of Lombardy Street, and the west side of N. Harrison.
West Avenue is commonly and affectionately known as "Stork Alley"; the street has always maintained a large population of children through the years.
GARDEN TOUR - 2018
The garden tour is West Avenue's premier event of the year.
The tour includes homes on West Avenue as well as
the alley bordering homes on Park Avenue and Franklin Streets.
All events are free and open to the public!
The 2018 78th Annual Garden Tour was Sunday, May 6th. The weather forecast was
not looking very good but in the end, mother nature smiled upon us with partly cloudy skies.
The tour was well attended and 46 gardens were open for the tour.
Channel 8 did an interview with WAIA representatives about the 76th Garden Tour
and you can view that interview here.
More info is available about the Annual Garden Tour and links to past winners here.

SPRING ALLEY CLEANUP - 2018
Every Fall and Spring the WAIA organizes and Alley Cleanup where neighbors come out to rake, sweep,
weed the alleys between Park Avenue and West, and W. Franklin St. and West. This year's cleanup had a great turnout
and the alleys are looking great for the Garden Tour! The city provides a garbage truck to accompany the
cleanup crews. Below is a picture of the crew that made all the way to the end.
